One Starr Falls and a Killer Rises

Yesterday afternoon, the sun shined down on Pocono Pines like a spotlight highlighting our own Kim Briggs, author of the new YA series, STARR FALL.

The first of five books, STARR FALL, Book 1 was released this past week and the second, STARR LOST, will be release in early in 2017.

Kim writes about kissing and assassins and sometimes kissing assassins. Seventeen-year-old Starr is on the run from the organization and never planned on falling in love. But then, there was Christian.

You can contact Kim at kimbriggswrite.com

She was joined in celebration by family, friends, and her fellow children's authors the KIDLIT,INK group.

Alison Green Meyers, also one of our own,  gave an enlightening speech that opened the door to Kim's writing world. Both she and Kim welcomed a very close friend and Ink Sister, Donna, who flew up from Florida to surprise Kim at her book launch party.

Also present were fellow KidLitters Jan Cheripko, Gayle C. Krause, Lindsay Barrett George, and Patricia Thomas.

Good luck, Kim. We wish you much success.

Northeastern Pennsylvania Reading Association 50th Anniversary Dinner

The authors of KidLit, Ink happily participated in the 50th Anniversary dinner of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Reading Association. We started the evening's festivities with a presentation titled:

CRAFTING A STORY: NOTE BY NOTE!

Seriously, we combined musical notes with written notes to explain to the reading specialists and librarians how a story is written.

From Pat's "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Story" to Gayle's "Stuck in the Middle Again, to Alison's "It's the End of the Book As We Know It," we sang our way through the steps in writing a book.
Jan was our impressive narrator and Lindsay portrayed our words with lively illustrations. Fun was had by all.

And the best part was that one of our own, Patricia Thomas, was recognized by the NPRA with a "Celebrate Literacy Award" for her contribution to Children's Literature for the past forty years.

Her most famous picture book took center stage. "STAND BACK," SAID THE ELEPHANT, I'M GOING TO SNEEZE."

Here's to the next Fifty!  Congratulations Northeastern Pennsylvania Reading Association, President Donna Salva, and our very own Patricia Thomas!

About the Book:
On the run from the Organization, Starr never planned on falling in love.
Starr Bishop’s the complete package. A perfect smile, brains to match, and a winning attitude. Boys want to date her and girls want to be her. She’s the type of girl you want to hate, if only she wasn’t so damn likable. But don’t worry, she’s not interested in your boyfriend. Boys are one complication she can live without.
When the Organization decides she’s not only the model student but the ideal assassin, Starr’ll need a lot more than high test scores and extracurricular involvement to get herself out of that commitment.
Dark, moody, and dead sexy Christian Evergood is the last person she’d expect—or even want— to come to her rescue. From opposite ends of Webster Highs social hierarchy, their lives collide in one electrifying moment. Christian isnt the Goth loner he pretends to be, hes a part Cherokee, All-American boy who wants to be a hero, Starrs hero. Christian makes Starr forget that the Organization is after her, but nothing will stop the Organization from collecting their top recruit.
By the way, the spot for junior class president just became available.

Clara Gillow Clark, Jan Cheripko, Gayle C. Krause

What could be more fun on a beautiful Saturday afternoon?

We met tons if interesting people and connected with some we haven't seen in a while.

One lady told me about her son and how his real life story matches my newest picture book story. Hopefully, it will find a home so people like her son can share his experiences with children.

We signed books and were even serenaded by a folk guitarist who sang Paperback Writer in our honor.

Catch us next year for all the fun.
